D.I.Y Glitter Nail Polish *Update*

Just stumbled across this lovely nail polish by American Apparel called Constellation.

As beautiful as it is, it's a whooping £9!!! For those of you that have already read my "D.I.Y Glitter Nail Polish" post, you will know how easy and cheap it is to make one of your own. Cannot believe that companies slap such a premium price on something that is so simple and cheap to make. So here is a reminder of just how easy it is...

Save yourself some pennies girlies and get creative!

*Technic: Carnival* - OPI: Rainbow Connection Dupe!

Opening sentence goes a little like this...*I HEART TECHNIC: CARNIVAL NAIL POLISH*

I will let the pictures do the talking...

As you are probably aware, Technic have created an awesome dupe of Opi's Rainbow connection. In my eyes it is better in 2 ways:

  • It is so much better value for money, at £1.50 you can not go wrong. I've also read that it can be purchased from Bodycare for 99p!!! Rainbow Connection is so overpriced in my eyes; it is practically glitter and clear polish mixed together.

  • I also personally think  that the colour of the glitter in the Carnival polish is better than the glitter in Rainbow Connection.

Moral of the story - GO AND GET YOUR MITTENS ON A BOTTLE OF TECHNIC'S CARNIVAL NAIL POLISH!

Products used:
  • Technic - Carnival
  • Miss Sporty: Lasting Colour Pro Brush - Raindrop

Tie-Dye Nail Art

Was browsing the net as you do, and came across this very beautiful tie-dye backpack. I absolutely loved it until I found out it was £300!! (Way out of my price bracket). I really loved the pastel colours, and how they all merged together seamlessly. Instead I decided to use the pattern as inspiration for my tie-dye nails.

It is pretty easy to recreate the pattern, and I must say a lot of fun too! I used white polish as my base coat, and sponged a variety of pastel colours on top of it. Before my nails were fully dry, I applied a clear top coat to help the colours merge together. As if by magic, my tie-dye nails were born!

Products used:
  • Rimmel: I Love Lasting Finish - London Clouds
  • Claire's Cosmetics: Chip Resistant - 774
  • Rimmel: Lycra Pro - Ultra Violet
  • Rimmel: Lycra Pro - Peppermint
  • Barry M: Nail Paint - Lemon
  • Rimmel: I Love Lasting Finish - Strawberry Fizz
  • Maybelline: Express Finish - Base & Top Coat

D.I.Y Glitter Nail Polish

The glitter I ordered from Amazon got delivered yesterday, so couldn't resist making my new glitter polish. I had an old clear top coat polish kicking about, so funnelled the glitter into the polish and gave it a good old shake. Simple as that.

I was expecting the glitter strips to be a little thicker, but oh well for £1.99 I can't complain. I layered it over some pastel polish and I think it looks really nice. You can experiment with how much glitter you want to put on the nail. I didn't put too much on, because I personally think it begins to look a bit messy. The picture doesn't really do the polish justice, as it was hard to get a decent picture because the light kept reflecting off the glitter. The glitter is silver but depending on the light changes colour.

Overall, it takes only minutes to make a nice homemade glitter polish without the extortionate prices of buying one. I will definitely be looking into buying more glitter, and making different types of glitter polishes.
So what are you waiting for? Get making some D.I.Y glitter polish. Would love to see some pictures if you do end up making some.
Products used (left to right):
  • American Apparel: Nail Lacquer - Factory Grey
  • Barry M - Lemon
  • Rimmel: Lycra Pro - Peppermint
  • Rimmel: Lycra Pro - Ultra Violet
  • Sally Hansen: Maximum Growth Plus - Reflective Rose

Tribal Nail Art & Strawberries

Just a quick post guys showing off my tribal nails, or should I say tribal nail. I know it's not brilliant, but it's my first attempt so please forgive me! I'm also waiting for my dotting tools to be delivered from Amazon so I can finally stop using toothpicks, hairgrips, the end of make-up brushes, and anything else I can get my hands on to make dots on my nails. I've also ordered some nail glitter and a dupe of OPI Rainbow Connection, so I will let you know how I get on with that.

I was feeling a bit cheeky today and purchased 2 more Beautyuk polishes from Superdrug, and a pastel yellow Barry M polish. No doubt you will be seeing them crop up in a post in the near future.

Excuse the random Strawberry and dodgy lighting, I was in the kitchen about to indulge and thought I better update the world on my new nails. I will definitely do an updated post when I get better at doing tribal nails.

Until next time Au Revoir!

Affordable/Quality Nail polish? - Beautyuk Review

Doesn't every girl want affordable, yet quality nail polish? Well I most certainly do! It's such a pity however that most affordable or 'cheap' nail polishes lack quality. You know when you buy a polish because it's 'cheap' ? ,and then you realise why it was so cheap, because you need about 5 million gazillion coats for it to look good.

Well guys, I've come across a brand that defies the laws of cheap nail polish, and in my eyes is really good value for money. It's called Beautyuk and their products can be purchased in Superdrug, Internationale, and Select. I picked up 2 Beautyuk nail polishes whilst having a mooch in Superdrug the other day. I'm usually not one to buy 'cheap' nail polishes, as they tend to be really thin and generally just rubbish. I really liked the colours and couldn't resist, so went ahead and purchased them. For £1.99 each I thought it wasn't much of a loss if I didn't like them.

However, when I got back home and I tried them on properly I LOVED them! The polish I would say is quite thick, and is definitely thicker than some of my Rimmel and Barry M polishes. I ended up doing 2 coats of polish on my nails, which I usually do 3 coats if I'm using Rimmel: I Love Lasting Finish polish. The colours are really nice aswell; the pink is probably brighter than my picture suggests, and the purple is a really nice, soft pastel colour great for the warmer days! I will upload some pictures of the purple polish when I get a moment.

Why not check Beautyuk out online at: www.beautyukcosmetics.com

So what do you guys think? Is cheaper nail polish just as good as some of the more expensive brands?

Products used/mentioned:
  • Beautyuk: Glam Nails - Fushia
  • Beautyuk: Glam Nails - Lilac Girl

*I will also update you on some of my recent purchases. Branded polishes - Rimmel, Sally Hansen, Maybelliene polishes for £1!!! Stay tuned guys!*

American Apparel & £1 in the same sentence?

My friend came into uni the other day, and said that American Apparel was selling off some of their nail polishes for £1. I didn't believe it until she showed me this lovely greeny-blue colour polish she had just brought! So after seminar I couldn't resist and had to pay American Apparel a visit, and guess what? she was right. They had a box of polishes at the cash desk labelled £1.

Being the nail polish addict I am, it was love at first sight. I must have stood there for a good 10 minutes having a good old chat with the shop assistant, picking out one of every colour in the box! I asked why they were so cheap and she explained that they had been sitting in the stock cupboard for a while, and some of them had become separated. She also then went on to add that some of the colours were being discontinued anyway.

In total I brought 7 nail polishes for £7, and in my eyes that is a hefty bargain! When I got back home I went on to the American Apparel website to see how much they retail for, and they were selling them online for £9 EACH!! I also decided to see if the colours I purchased were available to order online, and they all were accept for 1 of the colours.

Below is a picture of my most recent nails to date using my new colours. Usually I'm not a big fan of multicoloured nails as I think they look a bit tacky, but with all these new colours I couldn't resist showing them all off! (Apologies for the poor picture, as I took it whilst on the bus)

Orly - Fowl Play My Saviour!

I was browsing the Internet a while back looking at nail blogs, and I came across the most amazing nail polish to date! It's called Cult Nails - Unicorn Puke. I then found out that the nail polish was limited edition, and only 275 of them were released. *GUTTED*. I carried on browsing the Internet to see if I could buy it elsewhere, but sadly I had no luck. Instead I came across my saviour Orly - Fowl Play! Pictured below is Unicorn puke on the left and on the right is Orly - Fowl Play.

Luckily I found Orly - Fowl Play to buy online, and managed to purchase it from a website called beautybay.com for £4.95 including free delivery. Delivery was rather fast, and I couldn't wait to try it on! Pictured to the right is me testing Fowl play, it's pretty amazing isn't it?

It is a dark purple colour with lot's of sparkles, and big glitter flakes that change colour depending on the light. Basically, Heaven on Earth! I would definitely recommend getting your hands on this, if like me you missed out on Unicorn Puke as it is worthy alternative.

New Years Nails

Long overdue, but these are my New Years nails. Thought I would bring out the glitter and sparkles in celebration, seeing as a spent New Years alone. Sad I know!

I started off with a base coat of Rimmel Nail rescue,so that the blue polish did not stain my nails. Rimmel Nail Rescue is a good base coat as it stops polishes staining, in addition to hardening the nail. I then put 3 layers of the Barry M - Colbalt Blue nail polish on. I personally find Barry M nail polishes quite thin, but that's just my opinion. Finally, I finished off with 2 layers of Rimmel - Disco Ball, because you can never have enough sparkles!!!

However, I must warn putting that much glitter on takes a bit of scrubbing to get off. Nevertheless my sparkly nails were so worth it, after receiving some very nice comments about them.

Products used:
  • Rimmel London: Nail Rescue - 14 Day Nail Hardening Treatment
  • Barry M - Colbalt blue
  • Rimmel London: I Love Lasting Finish - Disco Ball
